Oh Man,

Happy Men’s Day – Cheers !

I am not sure, if men are from mars and women are from venus !

I really do not know if men are superior or women are superior or equals !

I do not know if gender is the result of past karma or what not !

I do not know if the pain women or men undergoing are due to fate or some other reasons !

But I understood something about ‘what a man can do to make difference to his children’ being born as a man and bestowed with fatherhood.

This piece of experienced note it equally applicable to women too, little differently, though.

Dear Man,

Parking all the easy going and happy side of the life aside, please try answering this question

in your mind pertaining to the pain points in life.

What’s could pain you most?
Your job dissatisfaction
Your meagre earnings
Your inability to save for self or future
Your business stagnation
Your business failure
Your future health issues
Your lack of popularity
Your poor quality of enjoyment in life
Your inability to serve family needs
Your inability to serve the humanity
Or
Your imagination of your child’s failure in life

For me, ‘’my children’s success’’ is the most important priority, than anything else. I would be shattered if I fail in that sphere of life’s aspect. Rest of the things, even if I fail, I would adjust, compromise and carry on, which I did all through my life and learnt hard way.

I am sure, you agree with the last option. Each of the above option is painful but the last one is unbearable than all of the above.

Though man and women breath same air, drink same water, eat same food cultivated out of same earth, go to same school, live in same locality, watch same TV programs, read same newspapers/books, < bound by > varied genetic composition + religion – caste – culture – social practices, man and woman as they grow, what they observe, grasp, like, dislike, think, believe, opine, behave, etc differ in varied extents. The inputs and actions from both father and woman stand critical in the making of complete child – with no undermining of any of the gender.

I am restricting myself to the father’s role only in this note with respect to single dimension – Learning and skilling of child during school stint, which is the foundation for the whole life.

Check – In detail – Probe to the CORE / as deeply as possible, on the following

– Ability to understand 100% of the concept < cud be math, science, social, English >
Helping them familiarize the concept/story completely in mother tongue before any exercise of making them memorize. Meaning of every complex word should be told and they got to practice making simple sentences. Followed by line by line memorizing. Conceptual understanding in mother tongue + familiarity with the meanings of complex words will aid their reproduction efforts. Repetitions of what they have read atleast twice a day followed by review next day, will help them get confidence that they can read, understand, remember and reproduce everything @ 100%.

Outcome of this exercise:
Child gets to know and starts believing that
• I can learn
• I can learn anything. There’s a procedure.
• It takes time to learn.
• Nothing is non learnable provided I learn methodically
– Gaps in basics < maths, language >
Identify gaps if any which they have in their understanding and address them
– Ability to remember
Based on the above pattern, help them get the confidence that they can remember and reproduce nothing less than 100%…by familiarizing in mother tongue, making complex words easy, line by line. Make them write paragraph by paragraph. Let them correct their answer sheet. Make them write again. Mistakes start coming down. Confidence spikes up
– Ability to reproduce orally and in written format
Make them write and when they reproduce 100% of the answer correctly, make them say orally. Change the order of the questions, maths problems, till they get the feel that they can.
• Environmental issues
– Issues they have with school
– Issues they have with teachers
– Issues they have with classmates/groups in class, out of the class including while travelling
Validate critical information from teachers and classmates, if any.
Any loose end at any of the above listed areas will prove fatal to the child and may aid for irreparable damage to them. Can’t quantify, though! Take help of qualified Child Psychologists – Don’t hesitate
• Action points for Father
2 hours / day (YOUR TIME & Not anybody’s) in a consistent manner will help you see enormous progress in all facets of their lives.
+ 4 hours / week of their activities which will help them increase their familiarity with learning such as story reading and telling, story reading & writing, identifying all the difficult words in the lesson and figuring out meanings and memorizing and putting them in three different sentences and as such.
Your time now will not only help you save lots of time in the future but also will help you and your child tread life with ease at learning which is critical for their living and ofcourse ensuring fun !
