అకస్మాత్తుగా ఆమెను ‘ ఐ సి యూ ’ కు తీసుకు వెళ్ళారు
ఆమెకు భర్తా, ఇద్దరు పిల్లలూ ఉన్నారు
కాని వాళ్ళు చాలా బిజీ
ఎక్కువరోజులు ఆమె వెంట వాళ్ళుండరు
వాళ్ళు ఖండాంతరవాసులు .. వస్తూ పోతూంటారు అప్పుడప్పుడు
కొందరంతే.,
అందరూ ఉండీ ఎవరూ లేనివారు
అన్నీ ఉండీ ఏమీ లేనివారు
బయటికి ‘ పూర్తిగా ’ ఉన్నట్టనిపిస్తూ
లోపల పూర్తిగా డొల్లై జీవిస్తున్నవారు –

ఆమె ఆ ఉదయమే వాకిట్లో స్పృహ కోల్పోతూండగా
మున్సిపల్‌ ‘ తడి ’ చెత్తవాడు చూచి 108 కు ఫోన్‌ చేశాడు
ఐ సి యూ – డాక్టర్‌ ‘ ఈమెకు ఎవరూ లేరా ’ అనడుగుతే
జవాబు చెప్పేవారెవరూ లేరు
వెంట ఒక తెల్లని పిల్లి మాత్రం కనబడిరది
దీనంగా దుఃఖిస్తూ .. బేచైన్‌ గా తిరుగుతూ
ఏమీ గిట్టుబాటు కాని కేసు గదా
కొండంత ‘ అసంతృప్తి ’ తో ఆమెను లోపలికి తీసుకెళ్తూ
అసహనంతో తలుపును తన్నుతున్న నర్స్‌ కు
తలుపులో ఇరుక్కుపోతూ,
గిలగిలా కొట్టుకుంటూ.. దుఃఖిస్తూ .. ఆమె తెల్లని పిల్లి కనబడిరది
పాపం పిల్లి .. ఆమె సహచరి .. నేస్తం .. తల్లి –

Companion

She was rushed to the ICU.
Her husband and two kids, too busy,
living far away in another continent,
they wouldn’t be with her
hardly visiting her at all.

Some are doomed so,
having everyone, none in need.
Being in riches, remain the wretched.
Seeming in fullness, they lead empty lives.

That morning
on finding her lose consciousness,
the municipal wet-waste collector called 108.
“Doesn’t she have any one?” asked the doctor.
None to answer.

There was only a white cat in tow
grieving miserably, hanging around restlessly.
Realising that it was an ungainful case
the nurse, with a mountain of discontent
and a sea of impatience,
kicked the door in
to carry the patient inside, and then kicked it shut.

A cat got stuck in the door, writhing and wailing.
Poor cat!
The poor patient’s companion!
The alter ego!
The mom!
